***The first burn of your soy wax candle is the most important! Allow your candle to fully melt to the edge of the jar, creating a full melt pool. This melt pool will prevent tunnelling and provide a clean and even burn. Soy wax has memory. If you do not allow for a full melt pool, your candle will only burn as far as it did on the first burn. This is called tunnelling.***

How to prevent tunnelling:

Tunnelling is when a candle burns down the middle, or more specifically, when the wax doesn't melt all the way to the edge of the candle jar. To prevent tunnelling, you should burn your candle for one hour per inch of container diameter when you first light it. For example, if your candle vessel is 4 inches in diameter, the candle will need to burn for 4 hours the first burn to create a full melt pool. If not, the wax will never melt past the first melt pool, which will result in tunnelling.

Why does my candle look like it's frosty?

This is an effect known as frosting or blooming, and it's 100% normal when your candle contains 100% pure soy wax. Frosting does not affect your candle in any way.

How to properly light and care for your wood wick:

The soy wax and oil of your candle is what fuels the flame and keeps it burning. The best way to light your candle is from the base of the wood wick and not from the top like you would a regular cotton wick. Once lit, the heat of the flame will draw the soy wax and oil through the wick and fuel the flame. A good tip to remember is, hold your candle at an angle to best reach the base of the wood wick. It may take a few attempts.

It is very important to trim your wood wick before each use. Wood wicks need to be trimmed a bit shorter than cotton wicks. Before each use, trim the wood wick down to about 1/8" and clean away any burnt wood from the previous burn.

Burn your candle responsibly:

NEVER leave a burning candle unattended, especially around children or pets!

You should not burn your candle for longer than 3-4 hours each burn. After 3-4 hours extinguish your candle to prevent sooting and glass breakage.

To prevent heat damage to the candle vessel or counter surface, stop burning your candle when there is 1/2" of wax left.
